Hey, I’m Sam Kraft.

As a content marketer for the past decade + change, I’ve spent my workdays building and executing content marketing strategies to help organizations capture and monetize people’s attention.

In a fitting twist of irony, I struggled to maintain control over my own attention. Even for someone privy to the standard marketing and advertising tricks, the sophisticated persuasive design of today’s devices and platforms, the neverending flow of notifications, messages and “content” — it often felt as though these forces had united and schemed, intent on suffocating me.

At its worst, my mind had been relegated to a manufactured reality, consisting more of representations on screens and misguided pursuits of productivity than meaningful, real-world experiences.

Which led me to this project.

The Attentive Rebellion

With The Attentive Rebellion, my goal is to help people recognize and understand the forces competing for their attention. Only then can they successfully resist the negative effects of the attention economy and create a healthy relationship with the information they consume every day — one that aligns with what’s important to them.

It starts with a simple but powerful realization: You become what you pay attention to. You’ll never get the outcomes you seek or become the person you want to be without understanding your content consumption habits and mastering your attention.

Now that my personal journey is underway, the idea of bringing people along for the ride makes too much sense to ignore. The Attention Economy isn’t going away any time soon.

I’ve dedicated considerable time and energy into reading dozens of books, scouring hundreds of articles, listening to countless podcasts and test-driving all sorts of tools and apps.

Why not share that knowledge with other people who might benefit?

The Newsletter

Which brings me back to The Attentive Rebellion. Here’s what to expect as a subscriber:

  • Actionable info: News, commentary and analysis you can actually use to build attention and content habits that are healthy and productive.

  • Expert guidance: I’ve curated insights from the field’s top minds to help us stay a step ahead of today’s attention thieves.

  • Community: We’re all here because we’re unsatisfied with the status quo. Let’s connect, share ideas and build a movement together.

  • Personal stories as I work to master my own attention and content habits.

Here’s what not to expect:

  • Technical, inaccessible jargon: I’m slogging through dense books, scientific studies and scholarly articles so you don’t have to.

  • Productivity hacks: There are already enough newsletters, books, courses, workshops and systems out there worshiping at the altar of “productivity.”

I approach this project not as a wizened practitioner, but as a student and curator of respected experts. Not as someone with all the answers, but as someone who’s searching for them. Not as a marketer, but as a researcher and writer with an intense curiosity and a desire to create something of value.

Let’s build a community. Let’s create a movement.

Let’s start an attentive rebellion.
